Matías Mattamala

I am a roboticist and currently a research associate in the Centre for AI in Assistive Autonomy, School of Informatics, University of Edinburgh.

🤖 I aim to make robots that help us understand and solve problems of the real world. To achieve this, my research focuses on the foundations and systems for lifelong autonomy: representations and algorithms for perception, learning, and action that enable autonomous and adaptive behaviour in robots working with humans or alone in the wild.
Latest News: Jan 2026: Our workshop proposal ‘Act to Sense to Act Better: Learning and Representations for Active Perception in Manipulation’ has been accepted to ICRA 2026. This is a joint effort with Cristiana de Farias, Tim Schneider (Darmstadt), Russell Buchanan (Waterloo) and Roberto Calandra (Dresden).
